For the very first time I participate to a Flick Meetup. Actually, this is the first I know that is not too far from my location (only 3.5 hours away by train). I was there, meet Flickr users and other photographers. It was really great to belong to a group.
Here arer my picture of the events : http://www.flickr.com/photos/twen/sets/72157611743047075/detail/

Sometimes, you just have to wait. do your best to help your friend and when you aren't waiting for it, it happens. A gift is given to you, just like that, from a friend you almost didn't care about before.
This is what happend to me last sunday, when I got a mail fro Flickr in my mailbox. I was surprised my Thunderbird filter didn't act on this mail (I'm sorting all my mail with filters). I open the mail and read that I was given a free year long pro account to Flickr ! How nice just before Christmas !
I have to say that I largely neglected my Flickr account before, mostly because of he 200 displayed photos limitation and the unsupported copyrights then (this has changed today, as Flickr supports Creative Commons licenses). So in the past I didn't put much interesting pictures in it.
However lately, I get involved in groups, as I fond out this is a great way to share your picture and learn from other people to improve you techinique and get ideas. Flickr groups is really nicely built. So I changed my mind and rebuild my Flickr galleries placing only my sort of "best of" picture I got ( I currently have about 70 pictures saved). The 200 picture limitation is nice as it challenges you to select what picture has to be shown. Today making an image is easy, building a good image is a challenge. I'm far from being a pro, and I got a bunch to learn from all the people out there !
So today, I got a great gift just before Christmas from Clarke Thomas (Flickr) and I'm thanking him !
I prepared this trip almost 6 months ahead ! The fosdem is a belgian developer convention, where you can find a lot of geeks and interesting people dealing with computers and free and opensource software. It's the second time I'm going. I like this little convention, as it's still small in size. It's not looking like the Apple show, where you will find a lot of booth trying to sell their products. No, this convention is for people developping software, so you will only find nerds, and technician people talking technology ! And because it's small, it's very friendly and family looking.
I took my new digital camera and shoot a lot, but I wasn't the only one. Go to Flickr.com website and look for the tag fosdem2007 ! Right here. (My nickname is twen on Flickr.com).
This year, I noticed :
- a lot of macbook. About 1/3 of laptops where macs running OS X. Other laptops where running different linux flavour (mostly Ubuntu though).
- a lot of Asus laptop
- Wifi did work this time, how ever I could make a VoIP call (to call my sister in Germany, and my father in France). I had to use my mobile phone and pay the expensive calls :(
